Oliver E. Heesch

Oliver E. "Ollie" Heesch 83, Wausau, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Cady Home, Wausau. He was born August 4, 1926 in Sioux City, Iowa, son of the late Julius and Laura (Manor) Heesch. He married Julia (Chaignot) Heesch in Wausau. She survives. Oliver was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II and the Korean War. For many years, he enjoyed serving as pastor for the Thomas Street Baptist Church in Wausau, and also served as an associate pastor for the Salvation Army for 35 years. Oliver was very active in many local clubs and organizations including the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10, Wausau, Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post #388, Wausau, the Moose Club, the Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus and also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Oliver was a volunteer for Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a "kid at heart" and loved spending time with children and especially his grandchildren. Oliver was very proud of his grandchildren's accomplishments. He loved to tell stories and jokes and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Survivors include, his wife, Julia Heesch, Edgar; five siblings, Richard, Ronald, Ramona, Rosemary and Helen; nine children; six step-children; 23 grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Heesch in 1995; and two brothers, Raymond and Robert. Funeral services will be 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2010 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Rev. Dennis Romine will officiate. Friends may call Monday from 3:00 p.m. until time of services at the Sixth Street Funeral Home. Full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion and the VFW.
