Norbert H. Schumacher, 66, 807 Maraview Drive, Marathon, died Wednesday, November 19, 2003 under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.
He was born June 18, 1937 in Dorchester, son of the late Nick and Hattie (Ludwig) Schumacher. On September 12, 1959 he married Mary Brandner at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford. She survives.
Norbert was the retired Controller for Marathon Cheese Corporation and was a veteran of the U.S Navy. He was a graduate of the Wausau Technical Institute as an accountant, after which he spent 41 years with Marathon Cheese retiring in 2001 as Senior Vice President. He was the treasurer and board member for the Marathon Swim Center, member of the Marathon Lion's Club and Chairman of the Finance Council for St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Hobbies and enjoyments in his life included, gardening, traveling, bowling, his card club, candy making with his wife and most of all, Norbert enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Schumacher, Marathon; five sons, Douglas (Jane) Schumacher, Marshfield, Jeffrey (Suzanne Kirby) Schumacher, Wausau, Philip (Cindy) Schumacher, Sioux Falls, S.D., Michael (Michelle) Schumacher, Madison, David (Suzette) Schumacher, Chaska, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Shannon, Travis, Stacy, Megan, Alex, Sara, Brett and Jeremy; one grandchild arriving in January and a neighbor, Kaylee, Norbert loved as another grandchild; two sisters, Celine (Art) Boxrucker, Prairie du Chien and Janet (John) Pinter, Dorchester. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Donald and two sisters, Adaline and Loraine.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 22, 2003 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. The Revs. Joseph Diermeier and Larry Abler will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military honors. Friends may call Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
Pallbearers will be Lisa Zaras, Keven and Kent Schumacher, Kevin, Jim and Allan Brandner, Danny Pinter, and Wayne Underwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Barb Krause, Beth Spechp and Kathryn Boehmer.
A Norbert H. Schumacher Memorial Fund is being established by the family.
