Norbert A. Schmirler, 75, 210 N. 7th Avenue, Wausau, died Monday, May 24, 2004 at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Madison.
He was born January 8, 1929 in Bruno, Saskatchewan, Canada, son of the late Walter H. and Justina (Sass) Schmirler.
Norbert had been employed as a journeyman carpenter involved in construction from an early age. He was a member of the United Carpenters and Joiners Union. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and received the Purple Heart. Norbert was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. He enjoyed stamp collecting, furniture refinishing, antique models and hat collecting
Survivors include one brother, Clarence (Ruth) Schmirler, Kronenwetter; two sisters, Valarie Matushak, Wausau, Sheila Burns, Appleton; many neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Roman Schmirler and a special friend Angie Benson.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m Thursday, May 27, 2004 at First English Lutheran Church, Wausau. Rev. Jay Kamrath and Deacon Bob Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family directs memorials to First English Lutheran Church.
