Norbert J. Nowacki, 86, Athens, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 15th, 2025, at his home.
He was born on July 4, 1939, in Marathon County, son of the late Theodore and Lauretta (Sommer) Nowacki. He was united in marriage with Janice O. Burger at St. John the Baptist (Wuerzburg) Catholic Church in Athens. She preceded him in death on November 23, 1967.
Norbert was a veteran of the United States Navy and served on the USS LAFFEY DD-724 with his brother Herb. He was a devoted member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Athens, WI, where he was an Usher for many years. Much of his life involved working at SNE, Mosinee, Wisconsin.
Daily calls from his daughter and visits from his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren were thoroughly enjoyed by Norbert. During Norbert’s retirement, he provided care for his parents and enjoyed gardening, playing Bingo with his relatives, Sudoku Puzzles and Chinese food. “Uncle Norb” gifted his nephews, nieces and siblings with many fond memories of hunting and fishing outings.
Norbert is missed especially by his daughter Catherine (Michael) Asmundsen and his grandchildren Janice (Broc) Hintz, Jed Asmundsen and Ellie Asmundsen. Norbert is survived by his brother Herbert (Mary) Nowacki, sisters Betty Rogaczewski, Patricia Sticka and Helen (Delmar) Dassow, sisters-in-law Cecilia Johnson and Theresa David and brother-in-law David (Marilyn) Burger.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Albert (Helen) Nowacki, Christine (Ray) Lapinski and brothers-in-law James Rogaczewski and Earl Sticka.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. George Graham will preside. Visitation will be on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Poniatowski, with full military honors conducted by the Athens Area Veterans.
