Norbert A. Jansen
87, Mosinee, died Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Continental Manor, Abbotsford, where he was recovering from recent surgery for a broken leg.
He was born May 29, 1917 in town of Marathon, son of the late Bernard and Anna (Franz) Jansen. On June 16, 1945, he married Clara Zawislan at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Mosinee.
Norbert and his wife operated a dairy farm between Mosinee and Marathon until 1976, then became ginseng root and seed growers. He served as President of the Rocky Ridge Dairy Cooperative, was a member of the Marathon School District Building Committee and the Marathon County Historical Society. Norbert was an amateur genealogist as well as an avid hunter and trapper. After retiring from the ginseng business he became a renowned wood carver and was active with the Archery Club. Norbert and Clara were also members of the Gem and Mineral Society, Wausau.
Besides his wife, Clara Jansen, Mosinee, survivors include one son, Mark A. (Michaelene) Jansen, Eau Claire and their children, Keil and Kirk Jansen, Paul and Brian Mirr; one daughter, Beth (Bruce) Jansen- Bonde, Woodbury, Minn., and their children, Collin and Andria Bonde; one son-in-law, James S. Haney, Madison and his children, Eric T. Nelson and Peter J. Haney; one sister, Helen Tamborino, Wausau; three brothers, Richard Jansen, West Bend, Ben (Jenny) Jansen, Mosinee and Charlie (Shirley) Jansen, Marathon.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Daniel Jansen and Ann Jansen Haney; one sister, Mary Ann Imhoff; two brothers, Walter and Harry Jansen.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Marathon. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services at the church.
Norbert will be lovingly remembered for the time and attention he devoted to his eight grandchildren, who have fond memories of a multitude of projects and great adventures.
