Nicholas C. Steinke

Nicholas C. Steinke 75, Marquette, Mich., a former Schofield resident, died Friday April 27, 2007 at the D.J. Jacobs Veterans Home, Marquette, Mich. He was born June 7, 1931, in Hatley, son of the late Robert and Martha (Stoltze) Steinke. For many years, Nicholas was a sheet metal worker, employed at several area factories, eventually purchasing and operating the former Wilke Sheet Metal as Intercity Sheet Metal. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War and was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. Among his many enjoyments, he was especially fond of hunting and fishing. Survivors include three children, Allen (Trina) Steinke, Kronenwetter, Terri (Dr. Dave) Hetzel, Ashville, No. Carolina, Todd Steinke, Schofield, the mother of his children, Wilma Walbruck, six grandchildren, four sisters, Alicia Meverden, Beatrice (Gene) Kurth and Dolores (Vernon) Pyke, all of Wausau, Virginia Anklam, Green Bay, two brothers, Leonard (Maxine) Steinke, Wausau, Ernest Steinke, Minocqua, two sisters-in-law, Joyce Steinke, Wausau and Rose Marie Steinke, Minocqua. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene, Rupert, Joseph and his twin brother, Frank. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday May 1, 2007 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, where full military honors will be conducted by members of the VFW Honor Guard. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the Sixth Street funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the D.J. Jacobs Veterans Home.
