Nancy Ann Matis

Nancy Ann Matis, 75, passed away Thursday, September 17th, 2026, at Circle of Life Hospice House in Stevens Point.

She was born September 23rd, 1950, to the late Victor and Evelyn (Radar) Schuster in Wausau, Wisconsin. On October 1st, 1966, she married Dale Matis at Holy Name Catholic Church in Wausau, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on January 23rd, 2024.

Nancy was a strong devoted Catholic with a love for her church and its people. She gave back to the church through altering and mending many cloth items and by sewing over 100 cassocks from scratch. She was also very involved with her faith through attending church events, retreats, and singing in the choir.

Nancy loved to spend time farming and gardening. She had two large gardens and lots of berry bushes, fruit trees, and beautiful flower beds scattered about her yard. She took great pride in canning and preserving the harvest from her garden. She also raised all sorts of animals including chickens, pigs, and cows in her red barn. She enjoyed spending time with all her animals including her puppy and sharing her knowledge with others. She often shared her excess produce, meat, and eggs with others. Nancy loved to use her skills and passions to help others. She also enjoyed woodworking and handcrafted many pieces of furniture for her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Lisa Rennie, Paul (Lisa) Matis, Christy (Brian) Blenker and Cathy Jo Matis; daughter-in-law, Krista Matis; grandchildren, Ashley, Corrina, Andrew, Brett, Joe, Sam, Haley, and Alisha; great-grandchildren, Easton, Evelyn, Athena, and Charlotte; siblings, Joan (Mike) Alters and Tim Schuster; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, Dale, she was preceded in death by her son, Davey Matis, siblings, Betty (Richard) Gajewski, Jim (Maryann) Schuster, Mary Lou (Peter) Albert and sister-in-law, Bernice Schuster.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch, on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Oratory, 325 Grand Avenue, in Wausau, celebrated by Canon Aaron Huberfeld. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. in St. Mary Cemetery in Marathon.
