Mynard Schmitz

Mynard "Mike" Schmitz 98, 1006 Monroe St., Wausau, died Friday November 7, 2003 at the Hospice House. He was born September 5, 1905 in Wausau, son of the late John Henry and Catherine (Burger) Schmitz. In March 1942 he married Helen (Scutkowski) Obermeier in Stevens Point. She preceded him in death January 28, 1995. Mynard had helped his father with logging and later was employed at the former Marathon Battery. He was also a carpenter and a part-time janitor at the former St. Mary School, Wausau. Special to Mynard was the time spent camping and fishing with his family. His hobbies included tinkering with electronics and carpentry. Survivors include a son, Romaine (Verlene) Obermeier, Milwaukee; three daughters, Betty Mueller, Wausau, Marianne Knuth, Cudahy, Delores Werner, Wausau, 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ethyl Resch, Wausau and Irene Schmitz, Schofield, ten nieces and nephews and 50 great and great-great nieces and nephews. He will also be deeply missed by his cats, Tina and Teger. Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph, Edward, Claude, John and Ralph Schmitz, one sister, Kathryn Gerber, three sons-in-law, Robert Mueller, Howard Knuth and Arnold Werner. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon, Tuesday November 11, 2003 at The Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Wausau. Rev. Stpehen Gross, Rev. Fred Kulovits and Rev. John Wisneski will preside. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
