Murray F. Callies
88, town of Wien, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born March 13, 1921 in the town of Wien, son of the late Herbert Sr. and Mathilda (Redmann) Callies. On August 7, 1954, he married Virginia Strathman in Colby. She preceded him in death on November 11, 2004.
Being a farmer in the town of Wien his entire life, he was also a Jack-of-all-trades from welding to sheep shearing, collecting and drying herbs for homeopathic remedies and a voracious reader on all subjects, especially, current events and politics.
Survivors include, seven daughters, Nadine Callies, town of Wien, Helen Kempf and Susan (Tommie) Davis, both of Graham, Wash., Kathleen (James) Dalessandro, San Rafael, Cal., Carrie Callies, town of Wien, Angela (Steve) Jacobs, New Berlin and Peggy (Perry) Martyn, Athens; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, Virginia, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Joseph Davis; and two brothers.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010 at St. John Lutheran Church, W1145 Huckleberry Road, town of Wien. Rev. Jeffrey A. Lambrecht will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
