Milton “Smokey” Heinz, 85, Wausau, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2025 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born September 2, 1939 in Brokaw, WI, son of the late Henry and Anna (Kniess) Heinz. On July 7, 1962, he married Marlene D. Schilling in Wausau. She survives.
Smokey was a veteran of the United States Army and was stationed in Germany as an SP4 (Specialist four). For many years, he worked for Kraft Foods, Wausau until his retirement.
Among his favorite pastimes, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and gardening with Marlene.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marlene; two special nieces, Lisa (Brian) Buchberger and Chris Wintersteen; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Besides he parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Annette Lach, Sandy Ryan, Joyce Goetsch and Maryann Wimmer; and two brothers, Donald and Dale.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Rev. Woody Pace will officiate. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Post No. 10, Wausau.
