Michael “Mike” J. Sydow

Michael “Mike” J. Sydow, 68, of Wausau, WI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Mount View Care Center in Wausau, WI, while under the compassionate care of Aspirus Hospice.
Mike was born on January 8, 1957, in Wausau, WI, the son of the late Clarence “Slim” and Margaret Sydow. On July 14, 1979, he married Lynne Beck in Wausau, WI.
Mike spent 25 years as the Register of Deeds for Marathon County, carrying out his duties with professionalism and dedication. Mike also served as President of the Wisconsin Register of Deeds Association and the President of the Wisconsin County Constitutional Officers. He enjoyed a life filled with service, family, creativity, and travel.
Mike was a proud lifelong resident of Wausau, and over the years was an active member of the Wausau Noon Optimist Club, the Wausau Area Jaycees, and Learn Build Fly. He spent many winters volunteering at the Badger State Games figure skating competitions, and received the "Spirit of the Games Award" for his contributions. Mike was beloved in his hometown,, and would run into friends and acquaintances everywhere he went. In his spare time, Mike stayed very busy. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, watching the Packers, playing cards and spending time with family.
Mike is survived by his wife, Lynne Sydow; his children, Jonathan (Angie) Sydow and Sarah (Alex) Stoesz; and his grandchildren, Hazel, Michael, Sylvan, Arlo, and Matthew. He is further survived by his siblings, Sally Sarlot, Lynda Emmons, Jim (Pam) Sydow, and Mary Fisher, along with his sister-in-law, Jean Sydow.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence “Slim” and Margaret Sydow; his brother, Roger Sydow; his sister, Diana (Donald) Nickel; and his brothers-in-law, Ray Sarlot, Lewis Emmons, and Ken Fisher.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, WI. A Memorial Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. with the Rev. Joy Nelson Jeffers officiating. Private family burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau, WI, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Learn Build Fly, The Grand Theater’s Second Century Fund, or both.
