Michael A. Mosure

December 10, 1938 — September 3, 2015

Michael A. Mosure, 76, of Wausau passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2015. Mike is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra "Sandy" Mosure, seven children, Colleen (Steve) Hazen, Kevin (Gina) Mosure, Kelle (Gary) Fecker, Kathleen (Wayne) Haugen, David (Joy) Mosure, Eric (Sarah) Mosure and Jennifer Mosure, 16 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and one sister, Jeri Henry. Mike was the owner of Ariel Vacuum Cleaner & Sewing Center for 44 years and enjoyed interacting with his customers. Sandy will continue to run Ariel with her son, Kevin. Mike enlisted in the United States Navy January 1, 1956 at Great Lake Naval Training Center. He served as a frogman/underwater demolition team (UDT) member. UDTs were the precursor to the present-day United States Navy SEALs. He received training at the following schools: Naval Mine Warfare School in Yorktown, VA; Navy Underwater Demolition, Little Creek, VA; Explosive Ordinance Disposal Point Mugu, Ca; Naval Emergency Defense Ground Force Training, Territory of Hawaii (T.H.); Escape & Evasion School, T.H.; Rad-Safe & Chemical Defense School, Pearl Harbor, T.H.; Operation Hardtack, Ke'ehi Lagoon, T.H.; NAD Westloch, T.H. & Bikini, Marshall Islands. He was a 2nd Class Salvage Diver at Pearl Harbor, T.H, and a MN2-Mineman 2nd Class Petty Officer. Mike was honorably discharged on January 11, 1962. Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather. He loved and enjoyed doing many things with his family. He took his family camping to Anvil Lake every weekend during warm weather while the children were young - swimming, berry picking, sight seeing, hiking, fishing, etc. In winter, it was cross-country skiing that he enjoyed with the family. In later years he loved motorcycling and camping trips to Glacier National Park. After the boys were old enough, we went motorcycling and camping together on two cycles. He was a member of Marathon Trap Club for approximately 10 years and helped to build the shooting range. Mike and his wife Sandy had a lot of fun times with many good friends from all over the state at other ranges. In 2000 Mike and Sandy took a two week trip to Hawaii for their 38 wedding anniversary with Colleen and Steve and their children. Mike hadn't been back to Hawaii since he had been stationed there in the Navy. They had a wonderful time going to see all the places he had been while he was stationed there for 3-4 years. They visited Pearl Harbor, Hanauma Bay, the Pali and other favorite places. They flew to Maui for a week and enjoyed snorkeling at Black Rock, golfing and the drive to Hana. While in the Navy in Hawaii he became a very good tennis player. Mike used to play against the kids at Rib Mountain School. He played 3-4 kids at a time and did very well keeping up with them. He enjoyed every minute of it. In later years after the children were older, we learned how to golf. He loved playing golf. We were in Monday night couples league, he subbed Tuesday and Thursday nights men's league and played Wednesday nights after the women's league with sons and grandsons. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside.
