Meta I. Leffel

Meta I. Leffel 98, formerly of the town of Wien, died Tuesday, December 25, 2001 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau. She was born February 12, 1903 in the town of Texas, daughter of the late August and Mathilda (Christian) Steffen. On April 21, 1923, she married Henry Leffel at St. John Lutheran Church, town of Wien. He preceded her in death February 23, 1978. Meta and Henry farmed in the town of Wien until the time of their retirement then moved to Fenwood in 1968. She was the oldest member of St. John Lutheran Church and their Ladies Aid. Meta's faith was very strong and she read the bible daily. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, gardening, flowers and playing cards but she really enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. Survivors include 5 daughters, Irene (Joseph) Havlovick, Stevens Point, Adline Dahm, Milwaukee, Margaret Taylor, Lorraine (Norman) Reuter and Elaine Dahlke all of Wausau; 1 son, Gordon Leffel, Wausau; 35 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren; 1 sister, Grace Zocher, Wausau; 1 daughter-in-law, Beth Leffel, Stratford; 1 son-in-law & Wilfrid Guillaume, Schofield. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 3 daughters, Mildred Liebers, Deloris Leffel and Caroline Guillaume; 2 sons, Arden and Norman Leffel; 1 granddaughter, Margaret Ann Bachhuber; 3 sisters, Alma Borman, Elsie Traska and Sarah Mueller; 3 brothers, Leo, Paul and Bruno Steffen and 3 sons-in-laws, Ralph Dahm, Albert Taylor and Wilbert Liebers. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2001 at St. John Lutheran Church, town of Wien. Rev. Jeff Tarras will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Ave., Wausau and again from 10:00 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church, town of Wien. The family of Meta would life to express their deep appreciation to the staff and volunteers of Mount View Care Center for the loving care given to their mother during her stay with them.
