Merlin E. Ohde

June 18, 1942 — September 4, 2007

Merlin E. Ohde The Lord took home to heaven, Merlin E. Ohde, 65, town of Stettin. He passed away at his home Tuesday, September 4, 2007, after a short battle with cancer. Merlin was born on June 18, 1942, in Rib Falls to the late Louis and Bernhardine (Wilde) Ohde. On June 18, 1966, Merlin married Sharon A. Thurs at Zion Lutheran Church, Marathon. She survives. After ginseng farming for many years and working at Kraft Foods, Wausau, for 35 years, Merlin retired early, at age 57, to spend time at their cottage with their children and grandchildren. Merlin loved to build equipment and ingenious gadgets out of steel. His workshop was his second home. Other hobbies included volunteering at his church, cooking maple syrup, growing pumpkins, and of course, going out with Sharon and their wonderful friends on their weekly chicken and casino run. Merlin was especially fond of his Aunt Ruth, who lovingly made him cookies and candy. He loved to socialize and share his quick wit with friends and family. His zest for life was apparent to all who knew him. Merlin will forever be sadly missed. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Ohde, town of Stettin; two children, Michael Ohde, Athens, and Lisa (Thomas) Kaminski, Wausau; three grandchildren, Mitchell, Kelly, and Nicole Kaminski; one sister, Diane (Ronnie) Schulz, Rib Mountain; four brothers, Roger (Dianne) Wilde, Pleasant Prairie, Wis., Jerry (Ann) Ohde, town of Berlin, Norbert (Roxanne) Ohde, town of Texas, and Harvey (Linda) Ohde, Wausau; his father-, mother-, and brother-in-law, Louis, Julia, and Bruce (Kathy) Thurs, town of Stettin; Rufus the cat; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Ohde. His loving wife, Sharon, would like to thank the UW Cancer Center and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for their care, and all their friends and family for their thoughtful well-wishes and cards. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church, 2214 State Hwy 107, Marathon. Rev. Terry Reich will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, town of Stettin. Friends may call Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau, and again on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
