Melvin R. Marohl, 82, Athens passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2025 at Marshfield Medical Center, Marshfield.
He was born September 17, 1942 in Fenwood, son of the late Henry and Cecelia (Seidel) Marohl. On December 28, 1968 he married Mary Felzkowski at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. She survives.
In his earlier years Melvin worked at Wausau Homes and then went to work as an Ironworker for PDM Bridge in Wausau until his retirement. After retirement, Melvin continued working at M&M Bakery frosting cookies while listening to polka music. He could also be seen mowing neighborhood lawns.
Melvin proudly served his country in the United States Army. He then continued sacrificing time and effort in the Athens community serving on the Athens Fair Board and as the Parade Chairman for several years.
Melvin loved sports to say the least. He loved playing softball, dartball, throwing bags, bowling, shooting pool and golfing. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed attending Packer games and seldom missed watching the Brewers. However, his greatest love was watching his children then grandchildren play sports for their school teams.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Marohl, Athens, his children, Michael (Rebecca) Marohl, Wausau, Mitchell (Stacy) Marohl, North Carolina, Matthew Marohl, La Crosse and Michelle (Troy) Diethelm, Athens, 7 grandchildren, Edison and Ethan Marohl, Macy and Miller Marohl and Danica, Daxton and Daelyn Diethelm, siblings, Henry (Pat) Marohl, Stratford, Anthony Marohl, Wausau and William (Sue) Marohl, Stratford and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Gordon and Walter and his sisters-in-law, Doris, Beatrice, and Jenneva Marohl.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Noon Thursday, February 27, 2025 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. The Rev. George Graham will preside. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Anthony School.
