Melanie Cummings, 56, died Tuesday, January 21, 2003, under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital. Melanie was born September 8, 1946 in Savannah, Georgia, daughter of Dorothy (Jernigan) Robbins, Savannah, and the late William Robbins. She married LaVerne G. Cummings July 10, 1964 in Savannah, Georgia. He preceded her in death November 22, 1997. Melanie was a homemaker as well as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She worked as a model after graduating from high school. Melanie was a member of the American Legion Auxillary. She loved to read and enjoyed bowling. She had a great love for all animals, especially her dog and two cats. Besides her mother, Dorothy Robbins, Savannah, Ga., she is survived by one daughter, Linda Cummings, Merrill; special friend, Norb Kraimer, Wausau. Besides her husband, LaVerne and her father, she was preceded in death by one son, John Cummings. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2003 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Rev. Joy Nelson-Jeffers will officiate. Friends may call on Saturday from noon until the time of services all at the Sixth Street Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of Marathon County, 316 East Kent Street, Wausau, Wisconsin.
