Maxine "Micky" Steinke
73, Wausau, died Saturday June 23, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, surrounded by her family.
She was born May 7, 1939, in Fish Creek, daughter of the late William and Regina (Guralski) Meyer. On August 4, 1962, she married Leonard Steinke at St. Anne Catholic Church, Wausau. He survives.
Maxine was a 1957 graduate of Newman High School, Wausau and continued to be an avid fan of the Newman girls basketball team. For 32 years, she had been employed in customer service at GTE and Verizon Phone Companies retiring in 1992.
Through the years, Maxine was an active member of Holy Name Parish, volunteering in several different capacities and especially enjoyed baking for different events and was also a member of their St. Catherine Council. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Rose and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Burns Post No. 388 Auxiliary. Among her favorite things to do were bird watching, spending time at the cottage up north and traveling.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard Steinke, Wausau, three sons, Jeff Steinke, Gerald Steinke and Mark Steinke, all of Wausau, one grandson, Jared, three brothers, Jim Meyer, Ronald (Toni) Meyer and Albert (Sue) Meyer, all of Wausau.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Weds. June 27, 2012 at The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Rev. David Rybicki will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Weds. from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
