Matthew A. Weiler
86, 7017 Weiler Road, Athens, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at Colonial Center in Colby.
He was born December 7, 1918 in the town of Bern, son of the late Victor and Helena (Gilles) Weiler. On November 4, 1942 he married Dorothy Lair at St. Peter Catholic Church in Laredo, Texas. She survives.
Matthew and Dorothy farmed in the town of Bern for over 47 years until their retirement. He loved to be outside, especially spending time in the woods logging. Above all things he cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and his great grandchildren.
Matthew was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army-Airforce.
Survivors besides his wife Dorothy "Joy" Weiler, Athens, include his children, Lucy Naujock, Denver, Dennis Weiler, Artesia, New Mexico, Phil (Christy) Weiler, Artesia, New Mexico, Ben (Kathy) Weiler, Tomahawk, Laurie (Bob) Denzin, Milan, Matt J. Weiler, Merrill, Sandy (Mike) Albrecht, Abbotsford, 20 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, one sister, Sister Mary Victor Weiler, LaCrosse, along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Matthew was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Chad and Deanna Weiler and 14 brothers and sisters.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2005 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. The Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service at 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Athens funeral home.
