Matthew M. Lannigan, 33, Oshkosh, passed away Thursday August 6, 2015 in Oshkosh after a courageous, well fought battle against cancer. Matthew was currently three semesters from completion of his Master's Degree from UW Stout, having maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout his cancer treatments. His positive attitude and bravery in the face of adversity was an inspiration to those near him as he fought the good fight, never complaining and never giving up.
He was born November 11, 1981, in Wausau, son of Daniel and Susan (Weinberger) Lannigan. For the past five years, Matthew had been employed with Oshkosh Corporation Defense as a Packaging Engineer. Among his favorite pastimes were waterfowl and deer hunting, fishing, ATV riding and enjoying the great outdoors up north at the cabin in Fifield. Many of these activities were shared and learned with his dad, which resulted in a strong father & son bond. Matthew was gifted artistically and his lawn mowing skill evolved from being a weekly job to creating a trimmed landscape worthy of admiration. As a longtime member of St. Matthew Parish, Matthew was an active member of the Men's Club, enjoyed working the Treasure Sales and was also involved in the planning phases of the addition to the church. He was also a member of the Institute of Packaging Professionals.
Survivors include his parents, Daniel and Susan Lannigan, Wausau, his sister, Beth (Jacob) Maske, Hatfield, his niece and goddaughter, Greta Maske, his maternal grandmother, Hattie Weinberger, Park Falls, his paternal grandmother, Donna Lannigan, Merrill, aunts and uncles, Dale (Theresa) Lannigan, Debbie Lannigan, Dewey T. (Kathy) Lannigan, Darlene (Mark) Fandrey, Dena (Mike) Steckling, Deborah (Mark) Fravert, Sharon (Ken) Walker, Ann (Brian) Schmidt along with many cousins, relatives, friends and special canine companion, Libby.
