Mary Ellen Volm

November 5, 1939 — May 13, 2004

Mary Ellen Volm, 65, Marathon, died Thursday, May 13, 2004 with her family at her side under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital. She was born November 5, 1939 in Wausau, daughter of the late Vernon and Angeline (Lenard) Meyers. On April 13, 1957 she married Robert Volm in Wabasha, Minn. He survives. Mary attended Wausau Senior High School. She was a cook at Verville's Bar and Ballroom and the Mandarin Restaurant, babysat for several children and was the caregiver for Henrietta Volm before she passed away. She was the number one fan for the "Hang 'em High" baseball team and, along with her husband Bob, watched their sons and grandsons play baseball every week. She was an avid collector of 203 different angels, enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, fishing, deer hunting with Bob, sons and grandsons and was a big Packers fan. Mary enjoyed going to races every week to watch her sons and grandson, Jeremy race. Attending the dance recitals of her granddaughters was something she always looked forward to. Christmas was the most important holiday for Mary because her family would all come together and she loved watching her grandchildren open presents. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Robert Volm, Marathon; five daughters, Debbie Lepak, Melanie Volm, Sheri (Paul) Verville, Lisa (Robert) Zocher, Ika Volm; six sons, Randy (Kathy) Volm, Ricky (Brenda) Volm, Robert (Brenda) Volm Jr., Ronald (Becky) Volm, Rory (Tammy) Volm, Scott (Jayanna) Volm; 23 grandchildren, Jeremy, Jessica, Ryan, Justyn, Katie, Jason, Angela, Paul, Kyle, Nathan, Travis, Tanya, Ashley, April, Alex, Mary, Naomi, Dustyn, Cody, Cassidy; six step grandchildren, Heather, Samantha, Eric, Joe, Megan, Tyler; and 6 great grandchildren. She is further survived by four sisters, Eileen Streble, Joan (Jerry) Wood, Jeanette (Cleo) Woodward, Dorothy (Jim) Szarkowitz; two brothers, Jerry (Sharon) Meyers, Noel (Cheryl) Meyers; three sisters-in-law, Alice Meyers, Ione Meyers, Irene Levick; many nieces nephews, cousins, other relatives, friend Karen Buchberger, and her special cat "Fluffy". She was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda and Irene, three brothers, Ralph, Vernon, and Kenneth and her granddaughter Charity Volm. Mary was a loving person, her family and grandchildren always came first and she was very proud of the accomplishments each and every one of them made. She gave so much love to all she knew. Mary will be sadly missed by her family and many friends but we know she will be with us no matter where we are or where we go. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2004 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
