Mary Agatha Kramer Jakel, Weston, went to eternal life Monday, October 6, 2025, under the care of Aspirus at Home Hospice at her home.
She was born Mary Agatha Kramer on January 26, 1938, to Harry and Anna Kramer, in Deerbrook. Mary attended Little Chicago Elementary School in Deerbrook, Holy Cross High School in Merrill and Antigo High School in Antigo. After moving to Milwaukee in 1955, she worked at George Webb Hamburger Stores for 5 years, managing two of them. Mary went on to open “Mary’s Coffee Shop” on North Holten Street which was a Truck Stop.
After leaving Milwaukee, Mary was one of the first women to graduate from the welding program at NTC in 1979 and then worked at Moduline Windows. After marrying Jim in 1985, she created wedding flowers for 12 years by the name of “Silks” by Mary. Then in 1990 she returned to NTC for the legal secretary program and worked for several area attorneys until retiring in 2002. She joined the cleaning crew at St. Therese in the late 80’s and became a member. She helped with the Circle of Joy and delivered bags of food to the needy every Sunday.
Mary loved the lord and serving him. She was a member of St. Mary’s, Wausau, St. Mark’s, Rothschild and St. Therese, Rothschild. She taught CCD at St. Mary’s in the 1980’s, delivered food and holiday turkeys for St. Mary’s and United Way. Mary enjoyed making Easter baskets and Christmas food baskets for the needy. An avid gardener she could be found at one of the many greenhouses looking for the newest flower to adorn her gardens. She also loved getting together with the rosary group and making a special dish for everyone. During her spare time she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, scrap booking, and reading.
Along with her husband, Jim she took care of the Adoration Chapel at St. Therese around the clock and was a eucharistic minister for five years. Mary was a member of Catholic Daughters and helped taking her turn to prepare food for the homeless.
Survivors include her children, Suzanne Cooperman, Melissa (Dave) Wilke and Adam Kramer; six step-children, Sarah (John) Nixon, Bruce (Tina Lorence) Jackel, Erick Jakel, Scott (Sara) Jakel, Terry Jakel and Jason Jakel; six grandchildren, Jacob (Leah Anderson) Woller, Dacotah Felzkowski, Isaac Jakel, Ethan Jakel, and Daryn Yessa; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Lawrence Kramer, Daniel (Adele) Kramer, Frank (Connie) Kramer and George Kramer; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James, sister-in-law, Barbara Kramer, nephew, Steven Kramer, daughter-in-law, Shannon Kramer.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild. Rev. Janusz Kowalski will preside. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service all at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild.
