Mary J. Stieber

Mary J. Stieber 92, formerly of Marathon, died Tuesday, November 2, 2004 under the care of Comfort Care & Hospice Services at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born May 25, 1912 in Edgar, daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Hall) Lemmer. On July 17, 1935, she married Edwin Stieber at St. John Catholic Church, Edgar. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1996. Mary managed the family mink ranch and ginseng gardens for many years. She was a member of Parish Council of Catholic Women, Third Order of St. Francis, New Jerusalem Group (Charismatic), all of St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Mary was instrumental in organizing a weekly rosary service at the Harmony House, Wausau and conducted the service for the past four years. Besides watching birds, traveling, fishing and playing games and cards, Mary had a green thumb, especially for growing flowers. She truly enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren. We will miss her especially our weekends out. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Agnes Stieber, Stevens Point, Christine (David) Giles, Weston and Philomene (Jerry) Kurth, Marathon; four sons, Clarence (Connie) Stieber, Marathon, Thomas (Mary Ellen) Stieber, Marathon, John (Joyce) Stieber, Rib Mountain and Michael Stieber, Marathon; 19 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Theresa (Alex) Szymanski, Marathon and Dorothy Mauerer, Hayward; many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Earl Stieber; eight sisters, Natalie Althieser, Delphine Bluer, Agnes Fischer, Ceil Palmer, Lorraine Viegut, Anne Stieber, Emma Ewert and Ernestine Lemmer; five brothers, Ralph, Joe, Al, Robert and John Lemmer. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, November 5, 2004 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside and Rev. Robert Thorn will concelebrate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau and again from 10:30 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the church.
