Mary Ann Hornung

March 15, 1931 — April 18, 2015

Mary Ann Hornung, 84, former Marathon resident, passed away on April 18, 2015, at Applegate Reflections, Wausau, WI. She was born March 15, 1931, in Marathon to the late John and Mayme (Linder) Knoeck. She was united in marriage to Albin Hornung on October 21, 1950. He preceded her in death on August 4, 2013. Mary Ann farmed with her husband in the Town of Marathon, and later on, grew ginseng on the original homestead settled in the 1850's. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, singing in the church choir, and she was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, The National Catholic Society of Foresters, and the Parish Council of Catholic Women. But most notably, she will always be remembered as a kind and loving mother of great faith and a wonderful friend to all. Survivors include three daughters; Verna (Richard) Toftum of Amherst, Marjorie (Dr. Ron) Charipar of Ladysmith, Irene Haas of Colby, and one son, James (Linda) Hornung of Marathon. She is further survived by 12 grandchildren; Sarah (Aaron) Kramer of Prairie du Chien, Michael Toftum of Stevens Point, Dr. Elizabeth (Dr. Allen) Lee of Burlington, Vermont, Matthew (Kate) Charipar of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kristin Charipar of Oakland, California, Ryan (Heidi) Haas of Chicago, Illinois, Katie (Mark) Clark of Phoenix, Arizona, Renee Haas (fiancAC., Nathaniel Dean) of Ellicott City, Maryland, Erin Haas of Providence, Rhode Island, Sasha Hornung, Hannah Hornung, and Alex Hornung of Marathon; six great grandchildren, Kylie, Emily, and Carson Kramer, Finley Haas, Madeleine Lee, and Nova Clark; two brothers, Marvin Knoeck and Gordon (Ann) Knoeck of Wausau; a sister-in-law, Joan Boehm of Wausau, and many nieces and nephews. The funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon, on Wednesday, April 22, at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier presiding. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services all at St. Mary Catholic Church. Peterson-Kraemer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
