Mary Jane Flynn

Mary Jane Flynn 80, Wausau, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at her home. She was born August 27, 1928 in Eau Claire, daughter of the late Richard and Gertrude (Vasberg) Kielty. On June 10, 1950 she married William Flynn at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Eau Claire. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1966. Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother and health care professional who shared the values of education with her family. She was one of only two women in her high school graduating class to attend college, graduating from Marquette University with a bachelor of Nursing. Mary Jane had a productive and rewarding lifelong career as a registered nurse for several area nursing homes including Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Wausau. She later became the director of nursing for the former Family Heritage which is now Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Weston. After her retirement in 1990 she continued to serve her community doing respite care for TLC Home Care Services and volunteer work in the literacy program at the Technical College, working in the food kitchen at the Salvation Army and being an ombudsman at Mount View Care Center. Some of her enjoyments included reading, traveling, sports, movies and homemade cooking. She will be remembered for being a supportive and faithful friend to many. Survivors include her six children, Larry (Jane) Flynn, Bloomington, Ill., Peggy Casey, Eau Claire, Mary P. Snapp, LaCrosse, Mark (Chris LeGrand) Flynn, Whitefish Bay, Daniel (Mary) Flynn, Mukwonago, and John (Barb) Flynn, Wichita, Kans.; 13 grandchildren, Shawn, Jenny and Andy Paap, Claire Casey, Breanne and Ben Snapp, Nathan and Caleb Flynn, Bethel (Mike) Metz, Emily Flynn, Nicole (Kevin) Baranowski, Lindsey and Jacob Flynn; five great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Kielty and family, Calif. And Bonnie Kielty and family, Calif.; one brother-in-law, James (Donna) Flynn and family, Ariz.; special friends, Ruth Church, Shirley Phillips, Chris Bauernfeind, Rose Boron, Jeanette Chrouser and Mike (Jean) Frankel; other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Bill, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Herb, John and Pat Kielty, a great grandson, Luca John Baranowski, two aunts, Sue and Dolores Flynn and friend, Marie Cahill. The funeral Mass will be celebrated 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. The Rev. Daniel Hackel will preside. Friends may call Friday from 3p.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Luca John Foundation, P.O.
