Mary Elizabeth (Sazama) Brodziski

Mary E. Brodziski, 93, Athens, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Athenian Living in Athens, under the care of St. Croix Hospice.

She was born August 13, 1931 in Colby, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Hodny) Sazama.  On August 17, 1957, she married Frank Brodziski at St. Mary Catholic Church, Colby.  He preceded her in death on November 20, 2008.

Mary, alongside her husband, Frank, farmed in the Athens area where they raised their seven children.  In her younger years, Mary taught Business Education at P. J. Jacobs School in Stevens Point and later was a substitute teacher for many of the area schools.  She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she taught CCD classes and was a communion distributor.

Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and making quilts.

Survivors include, seven children, Thomas Brodziski, Mondovi, Hugh Brodziski, Athens, Mark (Sandra) Brodziski, Marshfield, Kevin (Debra) Brodziski, Antigo, Paul (Sheila) Brodziski, Stillwater, MN, Ann Brodziski, Wausau and Lori (Richard) Daul, Athens; nine grandchildren, Laura (Joel) Hingston, Rebecca Brodziski, Johnathon (fiancée  Alexis Nething) Daul, James (fiancée Reanna Stowe) Daul, Jarrett Daul, Adam Brodziski, Sara (Michael) Worth, Andrya Kramer and Jillian Kramer; seven great-grandchildren, Cora, Lexi, Jordyn, Jack, Olivia, Conner and Maysen; one great-great grandson, Jaydon; three siblings, Bill Sazama, River Falls, Dorothy Kovatch, Bolivar, WV and Dan Sazama, Marshfield; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, Frank, she was preceded in death by four siblings, David, Joe and Tony Sazama and Margaret Leick.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski.   Rev. Alan Wierzba will preside.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.  Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.  There will be a rosary service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Family Catholic Church.
