Marvin D. Hargraves

Marvin D. Hargraves, 86, Wausau, died Sunday, July 20, 2014 at home with his wife at his side. He was born October 9, 1927 in Corinth, town of Johnson son of the late Faithful and Magdalena (Gaiser) Hargraves. On August 14, 1952 he married Marcella Kaldunski at St. Anthony's Rectory, Athens. She survives. Marvin served his country in the United States Army from February 1952 until January 1954, stationed at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. After being honorably discharged they moved to Wausau, where he retired from the former Wausau Concrete Company after 38 years of employment. Some of his hobbies included working in his flower gardens, serving as an usher and annual involvement in the St. Anne Fest. He also repaired the Christmas lights for St. Anne and was proud to see his work light up at Christmas time. Marvin also enjoyed decorating his own yard with lots of lights at Christmas. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 61 years, Marcella, Wausau; five children, Mary Jane (Mark) Peters, Madison, Michael (Cathy) Hargraves, Weston, Marie (Larry) Strasser, Barbara Merck and Sarah Hargraves, all of Wausau; one brother, Clements (Joan) Hargraves, Stratford; six grandchildren, Andrea Armstrong, Georgia, Elizabeth Pruessing, Manitowac, Eric Peters, Madison, Jason (Becca) Hargraves, Merrill, Michelle (Ken) Kaminski, Hatley, and Amy (Chris) Langdon, Meshboro; eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Vernon, George and Robert and three sisters, Agnes, Wilma and Magdalena. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Alan Burkhardt and Rev. Matthew Marshall will preside. Entombment will be in Holy Angels Mausoleum, St. Michael Cemetery, where full military honors will be presented by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post No. 10, Wausau. Friends may call Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
