MARVIN W.O. "POOR MARVIN" HANKE
69, 162 E. 15th Street, Marathon died Friday, September 7, 2001 at his home.
Marvin was born November 11, 1931 in the Town of Rib Falls at the Hanke family homestead, son of Alma (Zastrow) Hanke, Marathon and the late Walter Hanke. He married Karmen Kirstein, October 9, 1954 at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Marathon. She survives.
Marvin was a life-long dairy farmer and a ginseng farmer for over 50 years. He also owned and operated a sawmill in the Town of Rib Falls and did custom farm work and excavating for family and friends.
Marvin was a former chairman of the Town of Rib Falls and a life-long member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Marathon.
"Papa" enjoyed playing cards, listening to polka music, gambling and neighborhood parties, but especially loved sharing rides on his cart with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed collecting toy equipment and coins.
Survivors besides his wife, Karmen Hanke and his mother, Alma Hanke, both of Marathon, he is survived by his children, Dennis (Lori) Hanke, and their children, Jennifer, Michael and Denise, Colleen (Myron) Endres, and their children, Nina, Jason and Dacia, Kenneth (Linda) Hanke, and their children, Jenna and Brittany Zelenka and Kaylee Hanke, Russell (Charlotte) Hanke, and their children, Ashley, Cody, Natasha and Carter, Scott (Pam) Hanke, and their son, Zachary, Kip (Jacalyn) Hanke, and their children, Tia and Tessa, all of Marathon, and Vicki (Ed) Urmanski, and their daughter, Molly, Edgar, 2 brothers, Ronald (Judy) Hanke and Orville (Darlene) Hanke, all of Marathon, 2 sisters, Janice (Wayne) Lang, Marathon and Verna (Larry) Gerhart, Wausau.
Besides his father, Walter Hanke, Marvin was preceded in death by 1 sister.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2001 at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Marathon. Rev. Jon W. Hadler will officiate. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Monday from 3 - 8 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Marvin's name is being established
