Marvin 'Smokey' Barkow
68, 1014 W. Broadway Ave., Medford, died Sunday October 6, 2002 at Our House, Medford.
He was born December 12, 1933 in Athens, son of Bernard and Erna (Waldow) Barkow, Athens. On August 16, 1958 he married Evelyn Handrick at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. She survives.
Prior to his retirement, Marvin had been employed at Switlick & Sons Construction, Janke Construction and Herb Stargardt Construction. He was a veteran of the US Army.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn (Handrick) Barkow, Medford, his parents, Bernard & Erna (Waldow) Barkow, Athens, a son, Russell (Janna) Barkow, Milan, two daughters, Lori (Harlen) Kremsreiter and Joanne (Mike) VonLoh, all of Athens, five grandchildren, one brother, Dale (Rosie) Barkow, Athens and one sister, Burnette (Alvin) Steffenhagen, Merrill.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Weds. October 9, 2002 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Weds. from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish rosary service at 7 p.m. followed by a V.F.W.Memorial Service Tuesday evening at the Athens funeral home.
Pallbearers for the service will be Jeremy Schueller, Scott Kramm, Dick Switlick, Todd Barkow, Brian Barkow and Merlin Switlick.
