Marlene M. Hornung, 72, Marathon, died Friday, February 17, 2017 under the care of Interim Hospice and Palliative Care at her home.
She was born October 26, 1944 in Wisconsin, daughter of the late Albert and Isabella (Burk) Laumer. On August 29, 1964 she married Lester Hornung. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1991.
Marlene dairy and ginseng farmed for many years. She loved gardening, playing cards, polka dancing and NASCAR. Some of her other enjoyments included spending time outdoors, fishing and snowmobiling. She had the gift of gab and liked to travel, taking several trips to Las Vegas and Hawaii. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren especially at Christmas time.
Survivors include her children, Kevin Hornung, Michelle (Tom) Heil, Darin Hornung and Kim (Brian) Hilmershausen; grandchildren, Jessica, Chelsea (Blake), Kaitlyn and Brandyn; great-grandchildren, Damien, Jayden and Thomas; special friend, Keith Hanke; sisters, Karen (Donald) Zunker and Loretta Kroening.
Besides her parents and husband, Lester, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Tammy Hornung.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon and again on Wednesday from 10:30 until the time of services at the church. There will be a 7:30 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday at the Marathon funeral home.
