Marlene J. Carter, age 83 passed away peacefully at The Waterford of Colby on July 15, 2024.
Marlene Josephine Zettler was born in Athens, January 4, 1941 to the late Alton and Marjorie (Wozniak) Zettler. On October 15, 1960 she married Melvin Carter, they lived a short while in Athens before settling down in the Colby area. Marlene wore many hats; when younger she worked for Marathon Cheese, then for her parent’s business Alton Zettler, Inc. until closure. For over 30 years, she was the Town Clerk for the Town of Frankfort, and then the Town of McMillan until her retirement.
She had belonged to at one point or another during her lifetime, The Frankfort Freedom Riders Snowmobile Club, P.O.L.K.A., and Wisconsin Town’s Association. She loved taking rides to the Casino’s with Melvin and looked forward to her annual sisters outing. She made numerous family members wedding cakes and many other cakes which everyone looked forward to eating. Marlene loved spending time with her two daughters, four grandchildren, going to family reunions and catching up with family members.
Marlene is survived by her husband Melvin; daughters Julie Krarup and Denise (Kevin) Stanton; grandchildren Shelby Krarup, Kimberly Krarup, Carter Stanton and Trevor Stanton, She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Shirley Zettler, Linda Zettler and Jan Zettler; sisters Doris (Jim) Bollech, Susan (Dom) Dominowski, Carol (Keith) Myers and Lori (Jeff) Haines; brother, Gene (Kathy) Zettler and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by brothers Anthony, Dale, Wilfred and David Zettler.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2024 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. George Graham will preside. Burial will be at St. John Catholic Cemetery, Wuertzburg. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service all at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
