Mark J. Somers

Mark J. Somers, 66, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 22, 2014 under the care of Ministry Hospice at Seasons of Life Hospice Home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born June 23, 1948 in Stevens Point, son of the late Conrad and Dorothy (Redding) Somers. On October 16, 1971 he married Jane Wangen in New Lisbon. Mark attended St. Steven's Elementary School, Pacelli High School, University of Stevens Point and graduated from University of Wisconsin Whitewater with an accounting degree. He worked for several different companies throughout his life including Wisconsin Box Company, Wausau Chemical, ANP Dimensional Lumber Company, CW Paper/Midland Paper and most recently Simpson Electric. In his youth he was active with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts and would dress as a cowboy and hold up the neighborhood moms for "cowboy cookies" with his brother and friends. He coached several Wausau Area Youth Soccer teams and basketball for a season at St. Michael grade school. Mark was an active parish member at St. Michael Catholic Church until moving to Lake Tomahawk in 2004. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed wrestling, teasing and tickling his children and grandchildren. Mark enjoyed planning many great excursions and travel adventures with his family and friends. He was a fantastic cook, loved reading and was a history buff. Some of his other hobbies included outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and boating. Survivors include his wife, Jane Somers; sons, Matt (Liz) Somers and Joe (Terri) Somers; grandchildren, Charlotte, David, Sam and Ellen; brother, Mike (Diane) Somers; sister-in-law, JoAnn (Bob) Dykman; niece, Mieke and family and nephew, Michael and family. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth St., Wausau. Rev. William Grevatch will officiate. Friends may call Tuesday, October 28, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Wausau, and again on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the funeral home.
