Marilynn C. Smith, age 83, of Weston, peacefully returned to her heavenly Father on Monday, June 16, 2025.
Marilynn was born April 20, 1942, in Wausau, the daughter of the late Arthur and Dorothy (Lang) Putzbach. She was proud to be part of the first full graduating class of Newman High School.
She met her husband Roger on a summer day in 1962. One ride in a red convertible turned into a marriage of 53 years. Together they had countless adventures, many at their cottage on Skunk Lake. The time she spent up north surrounded by nature was where she truly found peace, calling it her “happy place.”
Although she held several jobs outside the home, her true devotion was to her family. She created a warm and loving home, where she shared her many talents. A gifted baker, she made the holidays special with her Easter coffee cakes and many varieties of Christmas cookies. Always thoughtful, she never missed a birthday, anniversary, or holiday, sending a card to let you know she was thinking of you.
Marilynn was a talented artist, known for her ink drawings of historic buildings discovered on weekend rides with her husband and her amazing coloring book creations. Every Christmas she transformed her home with window paintings, intricate hand-cut snowflakes and holiday decorations.
She was selfless and devoted, caring for her husband for many years as his health declined. Smart, capable and independent, she took on any task that came her way and saw it through with determination.
Survivors include her daughters, Carla (Mark) Rhyner, Kronenwetter and Brenda (Eric) Anderson, Oshkosh; granddaughter, Madeline Anderson; grandsons, Brent Rhyner and Tyler Rhyner, sister Anna (Daniel) Deml, Wausau, and Aunt June (Wesley) Wilcott, Wausau. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger; parents Arthur and Dorothy Putzbach, brother John Putzbach.
Visitation will be on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Services follow at 3:00 p.m., at the Sixth Street funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wausau.
