Marilyn F. Whitney, 87, Wausau, died Monday, July 20, 2015 at Cedar Creek Manor, Kronenwetter, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
She was born May 22, 1928 in Bessemer, Mich., daughter of the late Leo and Agda (Nyberg) Mueller. On April 2, 1949, she married James Whitney in Ironwood, Mich. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2015, following 66 years of marriage.
Marilyn earned her nursing degree from the University of Minnesota, and worked as a Registered Nurse for the VA Hospital in Madison, Madison General Hospital, Wausau Hospital North and Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
For many years, she was an active member of Monona United Methodist Church in Madison and Wesley United Methodist Church in Wausau. She was also a 4-H Leader and belonged to a Homemaker's Club in Madison.
Marilyn was an excellent seamstress, making many clothes and outfits for her family, including two of her daughter's wedding gowns.
Survivors include four daughters, Linda (John Schilling) Vogen, Kronenwetter, Janice (Doug Kelley) Whitney, Minneapolis, Minn., Nancy (Carl Capicik) Whitney, Madison and Diane (Kevin) Roesler, Waseca, Minn.; five grandchildren, Lisa (Marc) Scanio, Ryan and Suzanne Kelley and Alanna and Alex Roesler; three great-grandchildren, Oliver, Amelia and James Scanio; and two brothers, Charles (Lillian) Mueller, Michigan and Roy (Nancy) Mueller, Pennsylvania.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Restlawn Memorial Park Chapel, Wausau. Rev. Sue Lee will officiate. Entombment will be in the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum. Friends may call on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the Restlawn Chapel.
