Marie M. Wiesman

August 3, 1925 — May 24, 2011

Marie M. (Bloechl) Wiesman, 85, of Marathon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at the Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau. Marie was born to the late John and Tressa Bloechl in Town of Schley on August 3, 1925. While growing up, she attended schools in Doering and Gleason. She first worked as a nanny and then at Silcrest in Wausau where she made friends with Margie Wiesman. Margie soon introduced Marie to her brother, Anton. When Anton returned from the Army, they were married on October 25, 1947 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Merrill. After renting an apartment for a few years, Marie and her husband then bought a farm in the Town of Marathon. They lived there for 35 years and raised five children. They retired to Marathon City in 1985. Marie was very active at St. Mary's Church and in various religious organizations, holding the office of president for: Parish Council of Catholic Women, Wausau Deanery of Catholic Women, and Third Order of Franciscans. She also served on the Diocesan Council for four years. Marie was the church sacristan and seamstress for more than 20 years at St. Mary's. She was also a dedicated weekly visitor to the Adoration Chapel. Marie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #469. Marie loved caring for her flower and vegetable gardens. Canning and freezing fruits and vegetables were an annual ritual. She was a great cook and baker; nothing like her chicken soup with homemade noodles and apple pie. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. Marie sewed, crocheted many beautiful doilies and blankets, and every year made a special Christmas ornament for each grandchild. During their retirement, Marie and Anton traveled with friends around the United States by bus and train. Besides her husband, Anton, Marie is survived by her five children Mary Ellen (Dennis) Stein, Lowell; Anton Jr. (Debra), Marathon; Carol (James) Sebranek, Reedsburg; JoAnn (John) Gilchrist, Marathon; and Nancy (Gregory) Senst, Plymouth MN; 12 grandchildren: Nicole, Jamie, Diana, Sonya, Shana, Kristin, Joseph, Kathryn, Julie, Jill, Justin and Mark, and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Agnes (Robert) Mader; and sister-in-laws, Joan Bloechl, Margie Zastrow, Agnes Brinkman, Grace Stefan, Sr. Mary Ann Wiesman and a brother-in-law Robert (Grace) Wiesman, and many close friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Louis Bloechl; infant sister, Kathrine; and a granddaughter, Renee Stein. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday May 27, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. The Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside and the Rev. Daniel Crosby will co-celebrate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be in the church on Thursday, May 26 from 4:00-8:00 PM and on Friday, May 27 from 10:00-11:30 AM.
