Marie P. Sattler
82, Wausau, died Thursday June 9, 2011 at Our House Assisted Living, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
She was born May 23, 1929, in Stratford, daughter of the late Felix and Ethel (Raleigh) Adams. On October 5, 1974, she married Raymond A. Sattler at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death April 15, 1996.
A job at Employer's Insurance was just the start of a long, rewarding career for Marie. After being brought in to her boss's office for a promotion, she chose to decline the offer and inform them that she would be leaving her job to enter a convent. Marie was a nun with the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration from LaCrosse. While she was a member of the convent, she acquired her Master's Degree in English, and she taught first grade through high school students. After 20 years at the convent, Marie felt that God had a calling for her in a new career. She went back to school to become a nurse. Marie spent 20 years as a nurse and those were some of her most treasured years.
Through the years, Marie was an active member of the Church of St. Anne. Among her many involvements, she was a member of the Fatima Council, served as a Eucharistic Minister, volunteered for Fish Frys, Polka Fest, and anywhere else she could lend a helping hand.
Survivors include her children, Randy (Joann) Sattler, Greg (Sue) Sattler, Sandra (Paul) Jansen and Linda (Gary) Heckendorf; nine grandchildren, Erin & Amy; Chris & Kelly; Sara & Scott; Ryan, Kyle & Neal; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Cordelia Gillett and Sister Cordelle Adams. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday June 13, 2011 at the Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Steven Brice will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
