Marie Katherine (Peters) Remmel
After celebrating her 94th birthday, at Mount View Care Center, Marie began her eternal life September 9, 2012.
Marie was born on a farm near Edgar to Andrew and Elseda (Fiereisen) Peters on September 8, 1918. She attended St. John the Baptist School in Edgar. As a teenager she did domestic house work for several families, where she met a delivery man, Leo Remmel. They were married in a double wedding on June 24, 1940 along with her only sister, Gertrude and Edwin Burek at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgar.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Anita Remmel, Donna (Frank) Ellenbecker, and Sharon Remmel; grandchildren, Bob, Todd, Troy, Mickelle, Stacey and Denae; great-grandchildren, Jeff, Rebecca, Steve, Cory, Brittney, Nicole, Samantha, Alexcia, Elivia, Madeline, Charlie, Haley, Zachary, Gabriel, Luke, Grace and Samuel; great great-grandchildren, Cadyn and Sydney; four brothers, Edwin, Lawrence, George and James Peters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, her parents, infant son, Joseph, sister, Gertrude, brothers, Andrew, John, Vincent, Philip and Daniel and many other in-laws and relatives.
During her life, Marie worked in the kitchens at St. Mary Hospital, St. James School, and Wausau Insurance. During the holiday seasons she often helped with the floral designs at Leaps Greenhouse. In retirement she enjoyed caring for her grandchildren, growing and canning fruits and vegetables and nurturing flowers. She had a unique ability to "create something from nothing."
Marie is a member of Holy Name Parish since 1951, belonged to St. Rita Circle and St. Catherine Council. She also has been a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for over 40 years.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Wausau. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a rosary service 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home lead by St. Catherine's Council and the Catholic Daughters.
Memorials may be directed to the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus or St. Catherine Council.
The family appreciates all the compassionate care provided by her daughter, Donna, the staffs at Rusk County Memorial Hospital and Mount View Care Center.
