Marie Marcell

August 10, 1918 — September 7, 2014

Marie Marcell, 96, of Wausau was called home to eternal life by her Lord on September 7, 2014. Marie was born on August 10, 1918 in Wausau, WI to Karl and Minnie Schiefelbein. She grew up in Wausau and graduated from Wausau Senior High School. She was the fifth of nine children. Marie married the love of her life, Frederick Marcell on May 1, 1948 and they had two children and forty nine wonderful years together. He loved her deeply and affectionately called her "Peaches". Frederick preceded her in death on October 2, 1997. Marie enjoyed being an active part of her children's lives, serving on the PTA, volunteering in the school library and supporting their musical aspirations. She loved children. After her own children were grown, she worked as a nanny for many years. Later in life, she cherished her grandchildren and then her great grandchildren. There was nothing she loved better than holding a baby in her arms. Marie was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Montgomery Plant Post 10. It was a cause close to her heart as her husband was a WWII veteran. She enjoyed reading and baking. Her Christmas cookies were awesome and her grandkids say she made the best cream of wheat. The center of her life was her family. When she got together with her sisters, their laughter was infectious. Everyone who knew her loved her laugh. It was always fun to tease her or tell her a joke, just to hear her giggle. She was a friend and confidant to all who knew her. She loved to share her wisdom and was a great source of information. She was always there for all of us with a shoulder to cry on or with words of encouragement. Her mind was sharp right up until the end. She had great wit and a tenacity that just didn't quit. Marie was an inspiration to her family and the glue that held us all together. She is survived by a daughter Lynn (Alan) Tesch, Wausau, a son David (Terri) Marcell, Weston, seven grandchildren: Jeremy (Lisa) Tesch, East Grand Rapids, MI, Stacey (Wilbert) Marcell-Frazier, Oxford, CT, Joshua (Kate) Tesch, Duluth, MN, Rebeca (Jeremy) Argiro, Weston, Jason (Anikka Wattnem) Tesch, Wausau, Justin Heinkel, Madison, Matthew (Jessica Krautkramer) Marcell, Wausau, six great grandchildren: Owen and Chloe Tesch, Cameron and Casandra Frazier, and Madelyn and Allie Argiro, two brother-in-laws: Edward Vorpagel and Ken O'Malley, and four sister-in-laws: Winnie Marcell, Mary Jane Marcell, Mary (George) Gunther, Fanchon (James) Smith and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her five sisters: Myrtle (John) Fraaza, Alice (Robert) Gossage, Ester (Charles) Elston, Florence (Edward) Vorpagel, and Doris (William) Krcmar and three brothers: Myron (Nina) Schiefelbein, Roy (Nancy) Schiefelbein and Charles (Patricia) Schiefelbein, a daughter- in-law, Sandra Marcell and other brothers and sisters in law. The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2014 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Rothschild. Rev. Allan L. Slowiak will preside. Friends may call Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth St., Wausau, and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Primrose Retirement Community who took such great care of Marie for the past three years. She felt so much at home there. We would also like to thank the staff at Aspirus Hospice House for the comfort they provided in Marie's last days. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com
