MARIE E. HUMMER
74, 305 Caroline Street, Athens, died Tuesday, September 4, 2001 at her home.
She was born March 20, 1927 in the Town of Holton, daughter of the late Albert and Sadie (Speck) Hackel.
Marie was employed by Marathon Cheese in Medford and then for the Athens School District as a custodian, retiring in 1989. She also farmed for 26 years and volunteered at St. Anthony School in Athens.
Marie was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Andrew J. Sutter Post # 8527 Auxiliary, St. Anthony Catholic Church, and the St. Anthony Parish Council of Catholic Women, all of Athens.
Survivors include her children, Randy (Shirley Martin) Hummer, Marathon, Judy Pederson, Wausau, John (Judy) Hummer, Edgar, 6 grandchildren, Shawn Pederson, Christina Syverson, Sarah Pederson, Nathan Hummer, Karie Hummer, Kevin Hummer, her former husband, Arthur Hummer, Athens, 2 brothers, Raymond (Irma) Hackel and Howard (Theresa) Hackel and 1 sister, Cecelia (Benno) Venzke, all of Abbottsford.
Besides her parents, Marie was preceded in death by 1 brother, Isadore Hackel.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2001 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside. Burial will be in the Milan Cemetery, Milan. Friends may call Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. There will be a parish vigil service 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Athens funeral home.
