Marcia J. Denzin

December 19, 1942 — December 10, 2025

Marcia J. Denzin, 82, of Wausau, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital surrounded by her family.

Marcia was born on December 19, 1942, in Adams, Minnesota, to the late Donald D. Revord and LaRae Beck. She was lovingly raised in Adams by her maternal grandparents, Alma and Walter Beck, until the age of five, when she joined her mother and stepfather, LaRae (Beck) and Col. Ernest Cherney. Because of her stepfather’s career as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, the family lived in several locations throughout Marcia’s childhood. In the early 1960s, the family settled in the Wausau area, where Marcia met and married Gordon Denzin in 1963. She worked for Wausau Insurance Companies until her retirement in the early 1990s and continued to remain active in the workforce, later working part-time at Health Care Billing Specialists of Wausau until 2022.

Marcia was a fiercely independent soul who moved through life with quiet grace and unwavering conviction. True to her spirit, Marcia lived life fully, beautifully, and without apology. Beneath her gentle demeanor was a resilient strength that made her a steadfast, inspiring mother and a guiding light to those who loved her. Her independence and determination were unmistakable, and in doing so she became a quiet but powerful role model to many.

Her heart overflowed for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; to them, she was magic and filled with warmth, comfort, and unconditional love wrapped into one extraordinary grandmother. The holidays were her favorite season, a time when her home became the joyful center of the family. Loved ones gathered around her table for the Christmas breakfasts she crafted with care; homemade waffles, fresh fruit, clouds of whipped cream, and the sizzle of sausage and bacon filling the house. These moments, rich with laughter and togetherness, coupled with her wit and sassy humor were her greatest gifts.

Marcia was a devoted Green Bay Packers fan who planned her weekends around the weekly game, cheering with unwavering loyalty, often with an old fashioned in her hand. She was the beloved “neighborhood mom,” always welcoming, always present, and throughout the years she proudly embraced her roles as a hockey, basketball, and softball mom and later, a basketball, football, soccer, and softball grandma and great grandma.

She loved to travel and delighted in her many trips to New York City to visit Lisa and Derek and catch Broadway shows, her visits to Cedar Rapids to spend time with Keri as well as the many visits to The Wisconsin Dells with the grand kids. She also enjoyed trying her luck at slot machines across Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nevada with her close friends. Some of her favorite adventures were with her sisters, Linda and Tammy, who once convinced her, much to their amusement, to ride a zipline on Mackinac Island.

Marcia was a true foodie, passionate about cooking, baking and eating. She especially treasured attending cooking classes, often alongside her grandson’s wife. She passed down her love of food to her children, grandchildren, and to her niece, whom she taught to cook with patience and joy. Always eager to please, Marcia delighted in preparing any dish requested of her. Among her many specialties were waffles, monkey bread, egg rolls, rosette cookies, Chex mix, and her famous baked beans. Through her food, she spread happiness, comfort, and love, one delicious bite at a time.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, Donald Revord and LaRae Cherney (Beck), as well as her half-sisters, Catherine Cherney Whitt and Tamara Cherney (Alan Rapraeger). She is survived by her loving children: Scott Denzin of Wausau, Wisconsin; Lisa Denzin (Derek Sant’Angelo) of Richmond, Virginia; and Keri Semrau (Chad) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is also survived by her half-sister, Linda Knoeck of Wausau, Wisconsin. Marcia is remembered with great love by her grandchildren: Joshua Denzin (Kelly), Alycia Denzin (Dave Macomber), Allie (David Eikholt) and Seth Semrau, Rylee and Ankora Sant’Angelo. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Alexis and Duncan Denzin; her special niece, Rebecca Knoeck (Bill Stancel); her great-nephew, Gage Stancel; and her former husband, Gordon Denzin. Finally, she leaves behind her G.D. Jones PTA family that has persisted as a close friend group for more than 50 years.

Her memory will live on through the people she cared for so deeply and the countless moments of joy, humor, and compassion she brought into their lives. She will be forever loved and forever missed. As per Marcia’s request, there will be no funeral. However, the family will hold a celebration of life in the summer of 2026.
