Marcella "Marcy/Sally" (Holzem) Berndt, 90, Wausau, died Sunday, May 17, 2015, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.
Sally was born February 19, 1925 in Wausau, daughter of the late Chris and Amelia (Schneck) Holzem. On January 27, 1945, Sally married Arthur Berndt in Wausau while he was on leave from the U.S. Army. Art preceded her in death in 1987.
Sally worked with her husband Art for over 20 years at the Marathon Battery Factory. She also worked for many years at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Sally loved snowmobiling, bowling and traveling. Art and Sally loved spending time with her family, including nieces and nephews on their trips to Star Lake. She was loving, caring, compassionate and always willing to lend a hand to her family and friends. She also loved baking dessert breads, especially her famous fruitcake. Sally was an active volunteer with the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Association. In her later years, she loved spending time with her great-granddaughter's, Macy and Baley.
Survivors include her sons, James (Peggy) Berndt, Wausau and Mark (Lisa) Berndt, Ham Lake, MN; grandchildren, Kimberly (Greg) Moeller, Appleton, Travis (Kelly) Berndt, Wausau and Samuel Berndt, Ames, IA; great-grandchildren, Bret Olson, Macy Moeller and Baley Berndt; sisters, Arlene Loss, Anna Mae Babicky, Cecilia (Robert) Gwidt, Christine (Roger) Sefton and Sandy Dorshak; brothers, Alex (Barbara) Holzem and Marvin Holzem; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Holzem, Doris Holzem, Dolly Carlson and JoAnne Berndt; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Sally was preceded in death by her siblings, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kathleen and Gene Van Vreede, Charles Pierce, Gregory Holzem, Donald and Phyllis Holzem, Charles Holzem, Jim Babicky, Walter Berndt, Robert Berndt and Marge Holzem.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. Rev. Matthew Marshall will preside. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau and again on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. There will be a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Sandy Dorshak, Dr. Steven Nichols and his staff, and the staff of Mount View Care Center and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for all their kind, compassionate care given to Sally.
