Mae M. Hack

Mae M. Hack, age 83, Marathon, died Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born May 1, 1930 in West Bend, daughter of the late Elmer and Erna Wardius. On June 9, 1948 she married Alfred "Al" Hack in Allenton, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2008. Mae worked at the Basket Factory in Edgar followed by 10 years at Marathon Cheese. It was Mae and Alfred's lifelong dream to own a restaurant and in 1978 they opened Hacks Diner. She had fond memories of her children showing horses and was a lifetime member of the Golden Horse Shoe Club. Mae also enjoyed camping up North, playing cards and completing word puzzles. Survivors include her children, Shirley (Brian) Schultz, Marathon, Charlotte Bales, West Bend, John (Candy) Hack, Marathon, Sharon (Harold Jr.) Theis, Marathon, Jean (Ernest Jr.) Walters, Mosinee, Thomas (Lori) Hack, Mosinee and Therese (Andrew) Deininger, Edgar; grandchildren, Eugene (Connie) Lemmer, Loren (special friend, Nikole) Lemmer, Chad (Corina) Lemmer, Branden Schultz, Matthew Bales, Scott (Joanna) Hack, Joseph (Stephanie) Theis, Evan Walters, Melissa (Dan) Hager, Tyler Hack, Ryan (Johanna) Stieber, Megan (special friend, Kurt John Handrick) Deininger; 11 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild; sister, Barbara; sisters-in-law, Irene Karlen, Donna Hack and Glenevia Wardius; brother-in-law, Rufus (Marchita) Hack, many other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Alfred, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph and three sisters, Pearl, Jeannette, and Bernice. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon on Friday, August 30, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. Rev. Robert Thorn will preside. Entombment will be in the Garden of Eternal Rest, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon, and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Flora, as well as the staffs at Benedictine Living Community and Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care of Mae.
