Mabel Frieda Grunenwald
Our gracious Lord called home his daughter Mabel Frieda Grunenwald, 75, Mosinee on Tuesday, November 14, 2006.
Daughter of the late Edward and Evelyn (Steffens) Ahrens, she was born to this life on March 7, 1931, in Wausau. Beginning a lifetime of service to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Marathon she was baptized there on March 15, 1931 and confirmed on May 28, 1945. United in marriage to Eugene Grunenwald on June 24, 1950, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Marathon, they were blessed with over 50 years together in which they shared many trips throughout the United States and Europe before his death on May 24, 2001.
Throughout her lifetime, Mabel enjoyed variety in the daily work she performed as a dairy farmer, ginseng farmer and Marathon Cheese employee. Babysitting her grandchildren and being a homemaker were the special joys of her life along with polkas on Sunday. As a faithful member of St Matthew Lutheran Church in Marathon, she belonged to the Mission Circle and the Ladies Aid. Being an only child, she learned at an early age to crochet and made many beautiful things for family and friends. Family was very important to Mabel, she enjoyed that they were all close and passed down many different sayings that will continue for generations to come.
Survivors include four daughters, Linda (Bob) Scheiderer, Sharon (DuWayne) Kurth, Cindy (Wayne) King, all of Mosinee and Joanie (Ronald) Urmanski, Edgar; grandchildren, Heidi (fiance, Nick Teske), Cary, and Cory (Michelle) Scheiderer; Dennis, Terry (Erin), Amanda, Steven and Cody Kurth; Jessie (Dan) Glodowski, Tristin, Ashley, and Aaron Urmanski; Brad and Brian King and one great grandchild, Derek Scheiderer.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Eugene and a daughter, Ruth Ann.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 17, 2006 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Marathon. Rev. Jon Hadler will officiate. Burial will be in St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery, Marathon. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. on Thursday and again on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. There will be a prayer sevice 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.
