Lyman Petersen

January 19, 1922 — June 28, 2009

Lyman D. Petersen 87, Wausau, died Sunday June 28, 2009 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Wausau Hospital. He was born January 19, 1922 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, son of the late Thorvald and Otilia (Nielsen) Petersen. On June 17, 1947 he married Ramona Nelrich in Wyndmere, North Dakota. She survives. Schooling for Lyman included; High School at Wyndmere, ND; Iowa State Teachers College for two years; University of Illinois and after WWII, returned to the U of I at Champaign/Urbana. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy in the Pacific. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. OCS at Chicago, Ill., Navy Pier Armory. Lyman had been employed by United States Gypsum from 1947 until 1983. He worked and lived in, Chicago from 1947-1954, Toronto, Canada from 1954-1957, Wheaton, IL from 1957-1970, Connecticut from 1970-1985 and retired to Wausau in 1985. Prior to his retirement, Lyman was employed as financial manager at US Gypsum Corporation. Survivors include his wife, Ramona (Nelrich) Petersen, Wausau, two sons, Kris Petersen, Chicago and David (Lynn) Petersen, Skokie, Ill., one granddaughter. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau. Visitation will be from noon Saturday until the time of services at the Sixth Street funeral home.
