Lyle O. Jones, 95, Wausau, died Friday, August 5, 2016 under the care of hospice, family and friends at his home.
He was born May 27, 1921, in Gleason, son of the late Owen Jones and Cora (Waite) Jones. On February 21, 1953 he married Bernice Zimmerman in Wausau. She survives.
Lyle worked as a horticulturist and equipment operator for the Marathon County Parks Department.
Lyle O. Jones was his name, horseshoes was his game. He loved pitching horseshoes and played for many years in many different leagues. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid walker, walking up to 20 miles a day. In his younger years he also enjoyed singing in the Wausau Chorus. Most importantly, Lyle had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, and we have 100% reassurance he is with the Lord today. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
Survivors include his wife, Bernice, Wausau; children, Sally Jones, Wausau, Barbara Jones-Melton, Rhinelander, Jeffrey Jones, Mosinee, Timothy Jones, Wausau and Amy Jones, Kronenwetter; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Louise and Florence.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Jones.
