Luke W. Schilling
93, Marathon, died Monday, April 5, 2010 surrounded by his loving family at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born September 19, 1916 in Marathon, son of the late F. X. and Catherine (Deininger) Schilling. On June 24, 1944 he married Grace McHugh at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Halder. She survives.
Luke worked for the former American Can Company, was an insurance agent and a hobby farmer. He had a fondness for animals, especially dogs. Some of his other hobbies included woodworking, traveling and telling stories. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary, had a strong Catholic faith and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Grace, Marathon; children, Kay (Jan) Ugoretz, Sheboygan, Kenneth (Linda) Schilling, Kohler and Karen (Rick) Kuula, Stillwater, Minn.; grandchildren, Kathryn (Lindsay) Ugoretz Lovejoy, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Kristen (Jeff) Quast, Fond du Lac, Nathan Ugoretz, Glendale, Justin Ugoretz, Madison, Carla (Brian) Gamet, Littleton, Colo., Nicole (Ben) Navigato, Lakeville, Minn., Jamie (Shane) Lenzner, Antigo, Ryan Kuula, Eau Claire and Sarah Kuula, Eau Claire; eleven great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. The Rev. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
