Louis “Louie” G. Reissman, 91, village of Maine, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026, while under the care of the wonderful Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born February 6, 1935, in Birnamwood. He was the son of Paul and Elizabeth Reissman. Louie was married to the late Kathie Reissman.
Saying that Louie was a hard worker was an understatement. He retired from Marathon Electric and had worked for 42 years as a machinist. When he came home from work, he would start working in his Ginseng garden and was a grower for many years. He did the majority of the work himself and had the help of his family. After harvesting his crop of Ginseng, he would plant Christmas trees for a cut your own tree farm. The tree farm was his true love, from planting the seedlings to shearing, and then watching people come out with their families to pick the perfect tree. He loved watching all the memories families were making. Up until two months ago he planted 500 tree seedlings. What 91-year-old does that? Louie does.
Louie was a veteran of the United States Army. He served as an Army Engineer and Mail Clerk. He loved delivering the mail to all that served in his unit. He was stationed in Okinawa and Guam October 19, 1953, until October 19, 1956, during the Korean War.
He was a very spiritual man and loved his church and faith so much. Everyone in church he called his friend and loved them all. His favorite thing to do was to donate the Christmas tree for all the congregation to enjoy.
Louie had many special quotes. His morning greeting was always, “Daylight in the swamp.” Another famous saying was, “I’m easy to get along with, if you don’t believe me…just ask me!” Also, “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” Lastly, “Don’t do as I do, do as I say!”
Family was extremely important to Louie, from his daughters and sons-in-law to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A birthday never passed without getting a phone call with him singing Happy Birthday. He enjoyed polka music every Sunday and was a true NASCAR fan.
Survivors include his two daughters, Terry (Randy) Hillman and Jody (Stuart) Gehrke; two step-children, Shelly and Shawn; grandchildren, Stephanie, Brittney, Sam, Brayden, and Lonnie; great-grandchildren, Augie and Eliza; step-grandchildren, Emily, Hayden, Wyatt, Savannah, Sydney, and Vincent; brothers, Elmer and Ervin; sister, Bernice; and brother-in-law, Lloyd. He is further survived by his two loving companions, his dog, Goldie and cat, Kitty.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Steven Paul and Lonnie; brother, Raymond; and sisters, Dorothy and Marge.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the Round Barn at Willow Springs, 6905 North 60th Avenue, Wausau, with Rev. Maggie Westaby officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service in the Round Barn. Burial will follow in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Village of Maine, with military honors accorded by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Dudley Post #10.
