Louis Richard Knauf

Louis Richard Knauf 97, Marathon, died Monday, July 2, 2007 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau. He was born September 19, 1909 in Marathon, son of the late Jacob and Benedicta (Lang) Knauf. On October 5, 1936 he married Helen Franz at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. She preceded him in death July 20, 1995. Louis was a co-owner of Knauf Brothers Trucking and Excavating for many years and worked at Marathon Cheese Corporation prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon, the Holy Name Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling, spending time at the cottage and he especially loved being with his family. Survivors include his children, Robert (Virjean) Knauf, Marathon, Patricia (Michael) Hau, Germantown, Richard (Jeanette) Knauf, Marathon and Mary (John) Rastl, Wausau; one son-in-law, Leon (Bernadette) Thomas, Wausau; 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren, 3 step great great grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Msgr. Edwin L. Knauf, River Falls; one sister-in-law, Delores Knauf, Marathon. Besides his parents and wife, Helen, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. The Father Randy Knauf OFM Cap. will preside with his father, Deacon LeRoy Knauf, nephews of the deceased. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon.
