Lorraine F. Barthels, 94, Wausau, died Saturday, August 30, 2025 at her home.
She was born July 3, 1931 in Mosinee, daughter of the late Fred and Helen (Rzymek) Maly. On October 17, 1951, she married Albert R. Barthels. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2001.
Lorraine was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Wausau since 1951. She was active in many church activities, including helping with funeral dinners.
Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed sewing, crafts, doing word search puzzle books and camping, especially fishing trips to Canada. Following her retirement, she traveled to many places including all around the United States, Hawaii, Venezuela and Europe.
Lorraine was the grandma who always made cookies for all the neighborhood kids and was always willing to help someone in their time of need. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include three children, Randy (Tammy) Barthels, Barbara Marthaler and Kathleen (Ken) Heil; daughter-in-law, Jeanette Barthels; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; one brother, Leonard (Charlotte) Maly; two sisters, Karen Pankow and Judy (Gary) Tapper; sister-in-law, Lorraine Maly; brother-in-law, Dennis Riehle; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Albert, she was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Barthels; son-in-law, Russell Marthaler; and two siblings, Fred Maly and Grace Riehle.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Entombment will be in the Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at the church.
