Loren Vernon Hawley
87, Weston, died peacefully Tuesday January 18, 2011 Cedar Ridge Elder Services, Weston.
Loren was born September 2, 1923, in Weyauwega, son of the late Wallace and Eleanor (Marquardt) Hawley. On December 2, 1944, he married Jean Callaway in Oshkosh. She survives.
Loren was passionate about deer hunting, enjoyed trout fishing and watching the birds come to his bird feeder. He served in the US Navy, during World War II on a destroyer. Through the years, he worked in his dad's furnace company, was a meter reader, a taxi driver, a nurse in Nevada State Hospital, Reno, Nev., and finally worked as a head psychiatric practical nurse for the Marathon County Health Care Center. For many years, he and his wife, Jean, raised purebred German Shepherd dogs.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Jean Hawley, two sons, Calon (Ann) Hawley, Hatley; Richard (Janice) Hawley, Marathon; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Matt) Everson, Wisconsin Rapids, Chris Hawley, Weston, Derek (Ashley) Hawley, Weston, Erin Hawley, Hatley; one great granddaughter, Zoe Everson, Wisconsin Rapids; brother, Dennis (Kay) Hawley, Minnesota, sisters, Carol (Gary) Oslage, Tomahawk, Eleanore (Phillip) Halkoski, Milwaukee, Arlene (William) Feck, Wausau, Janet (Richard) Abt, Ringle, sisters-in-law, Janet Hawley, Birnamwood, Gloria Hawley, Rothschild, Nancy Steinbach, Fort Wayne, Ind., and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Loren was preceded in death by his siblings, Wallace (Lois) Hawley, Donald Hawley, Roy Hawley, Neil Hawley, Jerry Hawley and brother-in-law, William Steinbach.
Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Friday January 21, 2011 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. Rev. Philip Bogen will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Friends may call on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at the Stewart Avenue funeral home.
