Loraine Hornung, 87, Wausau passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at her home.
She was born the 10th of 13 children in Stevens Point, to the late Alvin and Laura Laska. The family moved to Wausau in 1945, where Loraine went to St. Michael School and then graduated in 1955 from Wausau High.
The Monday after graduating she started working at Wausau Paper Mills, Brokaw, in the payroll and finance department, for 39 years. She immediately started volunteering first for the City of Wausau, at many various companies and her church, and still volunteers to this day.
She met her most wonderful and loving husband, Richard, and they were married on Ground Hog Day, February 3, 1963. They were married for 55 years and Richard passed away in 2018 and is sadly missed. They had two sons, Richard and Paul.
Loraine’s hobbies were bowling and golfing in various leagues, book reading, puzzle setting and playing cards. She and Richard had a garden for 47 years, working together to can many vegetables. Now she goes to the Health Care Center for therapy on her legs. In summer, vacations were spent at the cottage Richard built on Two Sisters Lake. He also built their house and many other items and furniture for neighbors and friends.
She traveled with the Trekker’s bus ladies’ group for 21 years and also with Richard yearly. During the summer, when the two sons had a break, they also traveled. She had visited all the states except Alaska and Hawaii, and was in Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Mexico, Canada and Nova Scotia.
She is survived by her sons, Richard and Paul, sister Betty, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, brothers, Henry, Robert, Eugene, Norbert and Gerald, her sisters, Caroline, Delores, Theresa, Bernice, Margaret and Joanne.
Loraine enjoys her church and even attended during the pandemic. She has lived a fulfilling life and is thankful for all she has been handed, Thank you Lord. She has a friend, Tom, whom she takes to church on Sundays and then lunch.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements.
